Using CIRCLE material

The CIRCLE project has had several aims.

Firstly, during the initial stages of the project, we wanted to offer a free open language education research reading circle format for language teachers and language teacher students. During 2021 and 2022 we created the sixteen modules and held live online conversations each month to discuss the reading, lecture videos, and video interviews in each module.

A second aim was to offer this set of modules as an open educational resource for anyone to use for their own, or others’ professional development. The reading, videos, interviews, and discussion questions in the modules are still there. Individuals or a group of teachers or teacher students can organise their own pop-up workshop or reading circle. This might appeal to principals, heads of subject and lead teachers out there?

A third way that we have heard of the materials being used is in initial teacher education or teacher professional development where language teacher education colleagues use the material in the modules to flip their instruction, asking students or participants to use CIRCLE materials to prepare for a seminar.
